You'll need a 3d model to print. We developed the layout ourselves, but you can find a lot of ready-made works on the Internet.

Step 2. Gluing

Too large horns will not fit on the printing table, so it will need to be divided into parts and glued together. Our horns didn't need to be glued together. Immediately after printing, we attach the horns to the metal rim. The rim is heated and pressed into the plastic, after which we mask the entrance place. After that, the rim can no longer be disconnected from the horn.




Step 3. Processing


We take sandpaper and erase all traces of joints and irregularities. This is a very slow process, the more time you spend processing the product, the better. At the end, the product is covered with a primer. We use different types of primers for different products, mainly acrylic. There are no comrades for taste and color here, so choose which one you like best.


Step 4. Painting


You can use any paints. We use acrylic paints, we paint through an airbrush, because with its help you can create beautiful color transitions. Acrylic paints can be used by any company, they can also be painted manually (this is how we painted our first products).



Pay special attention to the places where you need to apply shadows (make a darkening). After painting, the product is covered with a special varnish. We use acrylic varnish.

The process of creating a replica


The range of materials used to create a dummy is really very wide. Various types of modern plastic, silicone, polystyrene foam, PVC, and even paper, fabric, cardboard are used.

We will look at the process of creating museum replicas in our workshop using the example of creating replicas of hominid skulls.

All our models are printed on a 3D printer. For printing, we use PetG plastic - one of the most durable and high-quality. Finished products are light (the heaviest hominid skull we have weighs 600 grams) and strong enough. For printing, we use models scanned from real exhibits.



Next, the details of the skull are assembled manually. Our assortment includes various reconstructions: there are skulls without lower jaws, some have a jaw that is not removable due to the features of the 3D scan taken from the find, some have removable lower jaws.


Next, the skull is processed manually and prepared for painting. For painting, we use airbrushes, which allows us to achieve maximum similarity with the original. Finished products are covered with special means, which ensures their protection from external influences.

Among our works there are replicas presented in historical museums. In the photo below is a replica of the Cro-Magnon skull of our production, exhibited in the Italian Museum of Antiquities.

The goddess Mictlanciuetal, who initiated the ancient cult, the wife of the lord of the underworld (Mictlana) Mictlantecuhtli. His constant companions were a bat, a spider and an owl. In the culture of the ancient Aztecs, owls were considered harbingers of death, many signs were associated with them.


Mictlanciuetal was depicted with a skull instead of a head in a skirt made of rattlesnakes. 



The veneration of the dead was very important in the life of the ancient Aztecs. The Aztecs believed that death was not the end, but a transition to a new state, and treated it as an important part of the life cycle, so with the advent of Catholicism, Santa Muerte took the role of Mictlanciuetal.

The cult is persecuted by the Mexican authorities as satanic, but the followers of Santa Muerte themselves deny the connection of their deity with the devil.



Santa Muerte is depicted as a skeleton in a robe with a covered head. The main question that follows from this is how this species survived surrounded by hominins with a more developed brain. This discovery forced a revision of the theory of evolution, which gave rise to the theory that Homo naledi separated early from the development branch of Homo sapiens. According to scientists, this species separated no later than 900 thousand years ago. There is a possibility that this species is the result of a cross between a hominin and a late Australopithecus. The body weight of Homo naledi is in the middle between Australopithecus and Homo sapiens: his height is on average 144 cm, weight 40 kg.
